Leeds General Infirmary Paediatric Intensive Care Units

Ward 2 Children's General Intensive Care and

Ward 4 Children's Cardiac Intensive Care

Information for Parents

How to find us

Both wards are located on C floor of the Jubilee Wing at the LGI.

  • Enter Jubilee Wing via the main entrance (next to Accident and Emergency)
  • Walk through the main foyer and take the lift or stairs on the left to C floor
  • On C floor, turn left onto the corridor
  • Ward 2 is the first door on the left hand side
  • Ward 4 is the first door on the right hand side
  • To enter the units, please ring the doorbell, say who you are and somebody will let you in

Transport

If your child is being transferred to intensive care then you may not be able to travel with your child in the ambulance. Your local hospital may be able to provide you with transport to Leeds initially, or you may prefer to make your own way there. Once you get to Leeds, follow the red signs to Leeds General Infirmary Accident and Emergency.

Car parking

Parking spaces around the hospital are limited. There are pay and display areas nearby, although these can be busy. There is a multi-storey located opposite the entrance to Jubilee Wing on Clarendon Way, although this requires a permit. Whilst your child is on the ward, you are entitled to a parking permit, which can be obtained by asking the ward clerk or the car parking attendant directly.

Trains

The train station is located in Leeds city square, about 10 minutes walk from LGI. For train times and information, please call 08457 484950 or visit http://www.nationalrailenquiries.com/.

Buses

Buses from Leeds Central Bus Station at Eastgate run at regular intervals throughout the day.

For further information please call 0113 245 7676 or visit http://www.wymetro.com/.

Visiting

You are allowed to visit your child at any time during the day on PICU, except during the morning ward rounds. Because the unit is open plan, we ask all visitors to leave so that you do not hear confidential information about another child. We do ask that only two people visit a child at any one time to help ensure a safe environment for the patients.

Further information

You should be able to buy food and drink when you reach the LGI, and there is a cash point available in Jubilee Wing. You will be able to get more information from the PICU staff once you reach the unit, or please ask one of the PICU team for the Information for Parents leaflet.
